Blog of earthquake
This Web/Blog is the beginning of an adventure in the world of earthquake observation.
Seismographs are the main tool for “capturing” the earthquake and studying its physical properties, such as the seismic wave and energy, and its geometric properties, such as the location.
Reading the seismograms allows you to define the arrival time of the P and S waves (and other seismic phases). The difference between the arrival time of the S wave and the P wave indicates the distance of the earthquake epicenter from the station (the radius of the circumference). With at least three stations it is possible to determine the exact epicenter.
I will show different examples of interpretation of seismograms.

Ml 3.0 Vernio earthquake and Ml 3.1 Barberino del Mugello earthquake, were recorded by the amateur seismic station of Modena. The seismic station has two seismographic units of Raspberry and Dolquake network. The seismogram recorded along the EHN channel was filtered 3-8Hz and integrated to obtain the displacement. The two seismograms are comparable as a…

Doble earthquakes of Ml 3.0 and 3.1 occurred in Vernio and Barberino del Mugello on 26 April 2024 at 22:39:39 UTC and 22:39:58 UTC respectively (data from INGV). The Modena station on the AM.R7231 seismograph, clearly captured the double earthquakes mostly in its EHN and EHE displacement components, where the seismograms shows the seismic phases P, S. The EHZ componet shows only the…

An earthquake of Ml 3.0 at a depth of 24 km occurred in Vetto (Reggio Emilia, Italy) on 10 April 2024 at 04:20:48 UTC (data from INGV). The Modena station on the AM.R7231 seismograph, clearly captured the earthquake mostly in its EHZ, EHN and EHE displacement components, where the seismograms shows the seismic phases P, S. The seismic signal was band-pass filtered 3.0-8.0…
